Miracle Over the Atlantic by Michael Scott Allen

“Captain, wake up, we have a problem.”  My friend Bill heard these words in the 1950’s when he was the captain of a 4-engine Airforce plane on a training mission over the Atlantic during the cold war.  They had taken off from Frankfort Germany and were using mid-air refueling & old school navigation without the aid of GPS to fly over Europe and out over the Atlantic to land on an island somewhere in the ocean.  The crews were taking turns flying and sleeping because of the length of the flight.  Bill was the senior captain in charge of the entire flight.  He was not used to being awakened like this.

“What’s the problem?” Bill asked.  The crewman answered “We’re out of gas and nobody knows where we are, there is no land in sight and we don’t know what to do.”

Bill got up and as he was walking towards the front of the plane he silently said to God, “GOD, WE NEED A MIRACLE AND WE NEED IT NOW!”

Bill committed his life to God at a protestant revival when he was 12-years old and by this time Bill had developed a working relationship with God.

In the cockpit no one was talking.  The pilot was in the left hand seat and the copilot was in the right hand seat.  The navigator was seated behind the copilot.  The pilot looked at Bill, but the co-pilot was catatonic and was not moving or talking, just staring ahead with a blank look on his face.

Bill got up high and slid his body down between the copilot and seat pushing the copilot up and out until the crew could grab the copilot and remove him from the cockpit.  Then Bill reached over and switched control of the plane from the pilot to the co-pilot.  Now Bill was flying the plane.

Bill silently said, “God, now what?”

As they taxied up to the hanger, Bill parked the plane and shut off the engines.  The pit crewman said later that the gas tanks were bone dry, completely out of gas.  The senior officer on the flight who was catching a ride back to the United States was the last man off the plane.  He said to Bill, “I don’t know what you did, but you had 27 Christians on that plane praying for a miracle.”

The Airforce investigators later determined that the navigator had made an error. They only interviewed Bill once.  They asked Bill how he found an island with an airfield to land the plane.  When Bill told the investigators he was directed by God what do, they seemed pissed off, closed their notebooks and left without saying a word.  They never talked to Bill again.

When Bill needed help immediately to know the Truth of how to save the airplane and crew, I wonder why he did not pull out his Bible or the encyclopedia or consult a Doctor of Divinity or a scientist or a professional navigator?

A Course in Miracles is a 2000 page book given to a medical psychologist by Jesus Christ over an 11-year period during the 60’s & 70’s.  In this book Jesus says he is in charge of all miracles on this planet.  Jesus says that his Kingdom is not of this world, that his Kingdom is the Real World of God aka Heaven and that this world is an illusion.  Jesus says that the Counselor/Friend/Teacher/Guide given to us, aka The Holy Spirit, knows everything in this world of illusion and everything in the Kingdom of Heaven.  Is that who answered when Bill demanded the Truth?  What better guide could you have than somebody who knows everything in this world and everything in Heaven!
